Australian Open Results

The Australian Open is in the books. It was a hot weekend but us resiliant Canadians managed it well. Seven canadian athletes made it through to the Semi Finals including the Purcells, Jessica, and Paul. Ben had to return home to take care of a shoulder while AJ raced well the Invitational on Sunday after a disapointing first race of the year on Friday.

In the Men's kayak class Paul Manning-Hunter finished in 32nd in the semi-final after a good qualifier, as he looks to crack the top 100 in the World Ranking. John Hastings of Ottawa and David Ford of Chilliwack finished 17th and 8th.

In the Women's kayak Jessica Groeneveld paddled to a solid 14th place finish as she steadily climbs the ranking ladder. The Purcells finished in 20th position in, the cloud of a tough family loss.

One more week of hard training before we head home. A good start to the season and it's been a great measuring stick for the athletes, with the majority of the top paddlers here in Penrith.
